Tenacious D will rock your socks off

Lo! The Pick of Destiny descends! Tenacious D, from left: Kyle Gass and Jack Black.

They are superheroes, one good and the other evil. Together they started a band and taught the world many lessons, such as how to make love both hard and sweetly, how to keep one’s genitals in top shape, and what to do when encountering a demon on a long and lonesome road.

On Nov. 17 Jack Black and Kyle Gass, aka Tenacious D, will continue to teach their lessons with a music tour and the nationwide release of their movie The Pick Of Destiny. Tenacious D has already released a single and a video from the album of the same name. The video is a prequel to the movie.

The band will be accompanied on their tour by stand-up comedian Neil Hamburger, who is the perfect opener for a duo that is no stranger to comedic antics.

The performance should be entertaining, to say the least. As an added bonus, Tenacious D will allow the show to be filmed as long as the video isn’t sold for profit. The band’s first album was ridiculously funny, containing a multitude of songs that have now become cult classics. Undoubtedly, their comedic timing will come into play during the show, their career being built on bouncing jokes off each other.

The movie, which promises to match their tour in ridiculousness, chronicles Tenacious D’s quest to become the greatest band on the face of the earth. Comedian Sara Silverman shares writing and directing credits with Black and Gass, and the film boasts cameos from Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio. There will also be an animated short made by the famed creator of The Ren & Stimpy Show, John K.

Tenacious D has also released a pre-order album on iTunes, including a special bonus track. With the purchase of the pre-order album, iTunes includes a digital booklet and the final cut of the animated short.

If there is some ambiguity about whether Tenacious D’s latest tour is in support of the album, the movie or simply the artists themselves, the answer is: all of the above. The duo represents more than just comedy and rock and roll: Tenacious D is a tribute to a lifestyle of unhinged musical audacity that has redefined what it means to pursue destiny.
