A bomb threat was called into the Auraria Police Department Feb. 8.

Sometime around 2 p.m., Feb. 8, a bomb threat was called into the Auraria Police Department. By 2:30 p.m. the area surrounding the bus turnaround in front of the North Classroom building had been taped off and the Auraria Events Center had been evacuated.

A woman allegedly stepped onto an RTD bus claiming she had a package full of high explosives, according to Sgt. David Marker of the Denver Police Department bomb squad. Witnesses said the woman then exited the bus, leaving the cooler on board, and left the scene, he said.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. an officer from the bomb squad clad in protective gear was seen exiting the bus carrying a small blue and white cooler. Marker described the threat as a false alarm.

“There was some items in it, but no explosives,” Marker said, referring to the cooler.

The last time the Denver Police bomb squad was called to a similar situation it involved a another woman who drove a bus out to Jefferson County claiming there were explosives on board, Marker said.
