Nurses Club looks for assistance in sending troops needed support

After sending 150 pounds of food and dry-goods donations to U.S. soldiers in December 2006, the Metro Nurses Club will be accepting donated items for its Soldiers’ Thank You Bags for shipment this May.

Michelle Ohnemus, vice president of the Metro Nurses Club, said that items such as socks, phone cards, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo bottles, eye drops, rolls of toilet paper, handiwipes and individually wrapped, store-bought cookies and snack items are optimal for donation. Homemade baked goods cannot be accepted.

An important part of the drive is writing letters to soldiers along with the items.

“I’d really like to have more letters,” Ohnemus said. “We are really looking for words of encouragement and what people are doing with their lives and freedoms.”

Donations can be placed into the collection box on the second floor of the Administration Building, in the nursing office, suite 220. Questions can be directed to the Nursing Department at (303) 556-4391.
