Men's track team finishes 9th, women 10th at invitational

Metro’s track team battled through rainy conditions and cold temperatures March 24 at Colorado State’s Ron Upton Invitational in Fort Collins.

The men’s team finished in ninth place, scoring 13 points. Colorado State came in first with 209 points, followed by Air Force (88.5), Colorado University (75) and Black Hills State, who tied with Northern Colorado for fourth place (53).

The women’s team scored 14 points and finished in 10th place. Colorado State also won on the women’s side with 207 points, while Air Force finished in second place with 88.33 points.

The best finisher for the men was distance runner Todd Tolentino, who came in fifth place in the 1,500-meter event. Rob Watson of Colorado State was the winner in a time of 3:58.53, as Tolentino ended the race with a time of 4:03.20.

Sprinter Sheila Hughes won the 200-meter dash, scoring 10 of the team’s 14 total points. Tolentino said Hughes has had an amazing couple of months competing as one of the team’s top performers. Hughes placed fourth in the 200-meter dash and second in the 60-meter dash at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 24 in Golden.
