Resistance is futile

Katherine Reed takes a break from her bike ride and watches teenagers leap into the Platte River on Feb. 23 in Confluence Park. Most years have 365 days. However, once every four years, there is an extra day to make up for the imperfections of the traditional calendar. This day, Feb. 29, is near. It’s all yours. You never had to ask for it – although there were probably times you did – and you’ll never have to give it back. These 24 hours, unlike any other, are uniquely yours. Sure you may have to work, but we encourage you to play hookie. Heck, it’s a Friday after all. So go climb a mountain, spend a few extra Franklin’s at the mall, pack a picnic or read a book. But embrace this day – one of the perhaps 15 such days in an average life– to do whatever it is you’ve never had enough
time to do ... you just got an extra 1,400 minutes.
