World Peace One announces plans for series of campaign concerts

Once again, rock ’n’ roll is being asked to save the world. And, once again, Bono is involved.

The nonprofit organization World Peace One is set to launch a series of concert campaigns on May 17 aimed at achieving world peace through education and political initiatives.

Suggested headliners include Bono’s own U2, Madonna, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Lionel Richie, Celine Dion, INXS, Velvet Revolver, Will.i.am, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. The organization is also considering several international acts such as Reyna Reyna, Gilbert Gil, Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Sergio Mendes, Linox, Jane Zhang, The Trollmates, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Tamara Day.

According to WP1 founder Doug Ivanovich, the goal of the concert campaign is to “generate the largest peoples’ movement, grassroots as well as institutional, in the history of the world.”

Alas, there has yet to be any word on whether Michael Jackson will be invited to participate.
