Man exposes himself to non-student

By Ian Gassman
igassman@mscd.edu

On Feb. 22, a female visitor to Auraria reported being a victim of indecent exposure.

This incident occurred in the South Classroom building, near Room 233A around 7:20 a.m. The suspect confronted the woman, engaged her in conversation, exposed himself and fled.

Because the victim was a visitor to Auraria, she notified the Denver Police Department first, causing a brief delay in police reaction to the crime.

Deputy John Egan of Auraria police urges anyone who is a victim of a crime on Auraria “to dial 911 and call the campus police [immediately] from any campus phone.”

According to the victim’s description, the suspect was 20 to 25 years old, black, 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall, with short, black hair.

He was wearing a gray, kneelength jacket, a white T-shirt, tan boots and tan cargo pants.

If you have information regarding this case, you may present it anonymously through Auraria police at 303-556-2677, present it in person at the Administration Building, Room AD 110 or you can call the emergency line, 303-556-5000.

To report this crime or this type of crime as strictly a sexual assault case, call the Denver Police Detective/ Sexual Assault Division at 720-913- 6050.

The campus is asking anyone to speak up if they are victims of a crime similar to this incident or if they witness anything suspicious regarding sexual assault crimes.

Witnesses , victims or anyone with information should contact Auraria police immediately from any campus emergency phone by dialing 911 or at the Administration Building located behind the 7th Street Building before Walnut Street.

Deputy Egan said that “this is still an active case, the suspect has not yet been caught.”

For safer traveling around campus, students are encouraged to use the Auraria Transportation Service’s “NightRider” Escort Buses to get to all locations in and around campus.

For “Nightrider” Escort Bus service information call 303-556- 2000.
