Writes of Spring contest is right around the corner

By Benafsheh Abuzar

Metro is once again holding its annual writing contest.

All Metro students are eligible to participate. Contest submissions must be delivered to the English department office (KC 402) by 4 p.m. on March 17.

This year’s contest covers six categories: academic essay, creative nonfiction, drama, fiction, poetry and linguistics.

A maximum of 10 pages, double- spaced with 12-point font, is required for fiction, creative nonfiction, linguistics, academic essay and drama.

For those interested in poetry, the poem must not exceed 50 lines.

Students are permitted to participate in a maximum of two different categories.

The pieces will be evaluated by several judges, with plenty of cash prizes for the winners.

In each category, first place will receive $200, second place $100 and third place $50, to be awarded at the English Honors Convocation in April.
