The paper is a liberal rag with no substance
Re: The Metropolitan newspaper as a whole
Mr. Pollan,
I am so disappointed — no, sickened —
with the school newspaper. There is so much going on at Metro that
is about the school, not about your opinions. The paper is so liberal
and so negative. Each department at Metro has so many events and
personnel that you could write about, but no, you choose to write
about how much you hate the war, hate America, hate President Bush,
hate conservatism or anything that doesn’t agree with your
agenda, hate this, hate that, and how much you love socialism and
liberalism.
You have the right to express your opinion, just
as I do with the email. America gives you the right to express your
opinions. You would not be able to do that in so many other countries
unless you agreed with the politics of that country. I am only one
person.
I will say that you are at least less liberal and
trashy than the other publications available at Metro such as Westword
and the Onion. Their ads, which consist mostly of the lower part
of our society, bring no value to one’s life. You are held
acccountable for what you write. Someday you will have to account
for your words. The words are so full of pride and arrogance. There
is nothing humble about your paper or you.
I dislike that my tuition money goes to pay for
such garbage. You will think nothing of this letter, and that does
not bother me. I feel sorry for you. You have the capability to
make a difference in the lives of Metro students, but you don’t
care. You are about yourself and “as the leadership goes,
so go the followers.” I no longer read the paper. That is
my protest.
I am grateful for Metro. I am grateful for all the
schools and departments. I think that Metro has some of the best
programs in the state, but you won’t read about that in The
Metropolitan. There are professors, teachers and employees who are
excelling in all areas. The only area you blow your Metro horn about
is the Sports section.
This e-mail will probably only incite your liberalism
and pride. Your quest for excellence in journalism was probably
the papers you wrote in elementary school.

What’s wrong with our church and its doughnuts?
Re: “When faith hits the fan”
by Kristi Denke in March 6 issue of The Metropolitan
Dear Kristi,
It’s kind of interesting that I came upon
your article (When Faith Hits the
Fan, March 6) because I never read the paper. However, one night
I found myself
going to the light rail with nothing to read so I picked one up.
I started reading your article (without looking
at your picture or name)
and thought wow, boxelders, bats in the choir loft this sounds like
[the church I
attend]. This is when I looked up and saw your picture and saw that
it was [the
same church] you were talking about.
I was just curious as to why you thought it was
so bad. I still go there and
have only fond memories. I wish I had your article with me so I
could find the
word you used, but I admit to being one of those doughnut eaters,
although I
never knew about the freezing thing (kind of scary).
Anyway, I don’t feel that I am, for lack
of a better term, blinded by deeper
meaning of the doughnut. I love going and smiling and talking to
people that
I’ve known for years. I guess I’m just curious as to
why you have those views.
Thank you,
Beckie Shellenberger
