CU Support

As I was walking, the other day from class to class I heard a woman yelling from the flagpole. About the whole CU football team being rapists. This statement is untrue and biased. Not one CU football player has been charged with rape by the Boulder police department. The news media and closed-minded people have convicted the University of Colorado, including its own president, Elizabeth Hoffman who is shifting as much blame as she can, to Gary Barnett and the CU Athletic Department, when she should be taking responsibility, as president of the University.

Having a war in the media with the Athletic Department is no way to deal with the situation. Rape is a serious crime and should not be taken lightly. A full investigation should be conducted. Judgment should be held until after the investigation is completed. I would like to applaud Metro political science professor Onedia Meranto for her comments quoted in the Feb. 27 issue of The Metropolitan.

How would we feel if a Metro basketball or baseball player were accused of rape and the media branded Metro as a school of rapists for something that may or may not have happened. How would we feel if our school was divided and under constant attack every night in the media. This is what Students at CU are facing every day in Boulder. The University of Colorado is a good school, the people who go there are good people. Football players and non-football players alike. We should not let accusations, although serious, destroy a college that has existed since 1876. Or the reputations of students who happen to play football, who may or may not have done anything wrong.
