Journey for cure, one step at a time

EYESIGHT BY LEAH BLUNTSCHLI BLUNTSCH@MSCD.EDU

My parents knew a married couple that had AIDS when I was much younger, maybe 7 or 8 years old. I remember we visited them once for dinner. As we drove to their apartment, my parents told us about the sickness they had. They told us we couldn't get it from them and to act as though everything was fine.

A day without a gay? We'll see about that

NIC GARCIA
ngarci20@mscd.edu

I'm fairly certain Bush and Co. would love to kick all the 'mos-that's short for gay-out of the good old U-S-of-A. Ha, I rhymed. His religious right company wouldn't mind if the Muslims got the boot, too. But that's for a different column. more >>>

Fresh start for paper, community alike

TIM DUNBAR
dunbar@mscd.edu

When I was a wee lad, it was traditional to start each school year anew-new clothes, new shoes, new pencils and notebooks, new classes in a new grade. Each year was a fresh start, a new beginning, if you will. With the slate wiped clean, new possibilities were limitless. more >>>

The ABCs of 5-4-3 teacher evaluations

JOEL TAGERT
tagert@mscd.edu

This is your last chance: drop that class!

Every student has suffered through classes that were not merely bad, but awful; and this is nearly always the professor's fault. It would be nice if every teacher at Metro was great, but that's just not the case. At Metro, there are a few teachers who are really excellent, many mediocre, and a few hideously bad. more >>>

Careful, what you are about to read is very liberal

ZOË WILLIAMS

Coffee is my lord and savior.

I know no experience more religious than having my first cup of the morning. I have seen the miracle of a triple shot of espresso while trying to remain in this world after three nights of paper writing. Coffee has complimented my conversations with professors, friends, enemies and loves. It has brought me closer to my fellow human beings. Not to mention that my inky and stimulating deity provides a high comparable to any drink I've ever had. Plus, it's legal and readily available. more >>>

On the road again, Motheater style

Story And Photos By Tuyet Nguyen
nguytuye@mscd.edu

Tour doesn't make any sense. Especially in the hands of an underground rock band, the entire idea of it is just impractical. Take one van and cram an entire band plus equipment and maybe throw in one or two friends for good measure. Then route a city by city itinerary trusting that across each new horizon there will be a venue to rock out in and hopefully a couch/floor to sleep on. Become accustomed to the delicacies of truck stop food and rely on selling t-shirts and other cheap merchandise to make gas and food money. Really, tour is an acquired taste. more >>>
