Enrollment inches up 2 percent

Metro's student population is up 2 percent from last year. As of Aug. 23, a total of 21,143 students had enrolled in classes this semester.
Metro spokesperson Cathy Lucas said the school had budgeted for a growth of 5 percent and used that number as a goal that would match the growth Metro has undergone over the past few years.

Brian Wilson tickets $20 for students

Metro students have access to discount $20 tickets to the 40th anniversary Brian Wilson concert to benefit the Metro State Athletic Scholarship Fund. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Universal Lending Pavilion. Brian Wilson is a former member of the Beach Boys.
Students can purchase tickets for the event by visiting www.ticketmaster.com and entering the discount code "metroalum."
A free beach party will be held before the concert, and will feature music, games, prizes and promotions from sponsor KOOL 105.

Metro welcomes 34 new faculty members

Metro welcomed 34 new faculty members into its classrooms during the New Faculty Orientation Aug. 16.
These new members filled 14 vacant positions and 20 new faculty positions in the departments of Accounting, Art, Aviation, African American Studies, Criminal Justice and Criminology, Finance, History, Human Services, Math, Music, Nursing, Teacher Education and others.
At the orientation, Metro President Stephen Jordan stated that 40 more faculty positions could be created and filled within the next two years, depending on the outcome of Referendums C and D.
