The Metro women's soccer team swept yet another two-game division road trip to improve to 11-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

With the win over Mesa State College on Sunday, the Roadrunners improved to 17-0 overall. Metro is undefeated in 40 consecutive games.

The 'Runners began their weekend in Durango, where they defeated Fort Lewis College (10-3-3, 7-3-3 RMAC) for the second time this season. The 5-0 win, paired with a 6-0 blanking of Mesa State, gave Metro its 13th shutout of the season.

"The team finished really well," metro head coach Danny Sanchez said. "They defended well and got us a great result on the road."

Senior captain and forward Amy Leichliter started the Roadrunners off when she nailed her own rebound into the back of the net in the 24th minute of the game. Leichliter assisted freshman forward Anne Ormrod a minute later to make it a 2-0 game.

Ormrod scored goals in the 67th and 82nd minute for her first hat trick this year. Junior midfielder Kira Sharp assisted Ormrod's last goal.

Junior forward Kylee Hanavan scored her 21st goal of the season in the 56th minute on a header off freshman defensive back Nicole Cito's assist.

"Our success is obviously due to our coach," freshman midfielder Vanessa Mais said. "But, as a team, this year we have really come together and played for each other."

The 'Runners out-shot the Skyhawks by a 27-5 margin and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Metro traveled to Grand Junction on Sunday to take on Mesa State, where they defeated the Mavericks (4-14, 3-9 RMAC) 6-0.

Hanavan had three goals on the game for her third hat trick of the season. Hanavan's first goal came quickly when she scored off Ormrod's assist in the 4th minute in a one-on-one showdown.

Ormrod had two goals, with the first of the day coming in the 16th minute off a penalty kick and the latter off an unassisted effort a minute before the end of the first half.

"We've kind of been struggling, but I think we've been able to come together as a team," senior defensive back Stephanie Prouty said. "Our defense was awesome and our forwards came together."

"We've been struggling with our forwards connecting passes," Prouty continued. "They probably had the best weekend so far."

Metro traveled to Regis University Wednesday for an RMAC showdown. A recap of the game will appear next week.
