Away from their home court this past weekend, the women's volleyball team worked hard to come up with a pair of victories.

"The two wins we had this weekend were huge for our team," junior Megan Wittenburg said. "Our on-the-road play hasn't been the best, and we knew that both teams were going to play well on their home courts. We battled well both nights and stayed together as a team."

On Friday evening, Oct. 21 against Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Julie Green had 18 kills to lead Metro to a 25-30, 30-27, 32-30, 30-18 victory.

Sheena Bohannon stole the show with a career-high 16 kills and six blocks. For her effort over the weekend, Bohannon became the third Roadrunner in 2005 to earn Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week honors.

Stefanie Allison added 17 kills to Metro's attack, while Wittenburg got into the groove and tallied 11 kills. Gabrielle Curtis had a great night at Volk Gymnasium with 55 assists.

Following Friday night's action, the women traveled back to Denver to face Regis University.

In the Saturday evening match at Regis Field House, the Roadrunners' offensive leader was Allison.

With 13 kills and a .400 attack percentage, Allison led Metro to its second victory of the successful weekend.

The 'Runners went away with scores of 31-29, 30-19, 30-27. Wittenburg added 10 kills and hit .529, while Green tallied 10 kills. Sheena McLaughlin had a match-high 17 digs, while Kylie Schmeekle put away five blocks.

The Roadrunners hit .441 in game two with 17 kills and just two errors.

With these wins, the 'Runners improve to 16-6 overall, 12-3 in the RMAC. They are No. 2 in both the conference and the Southwest Region.

Metro hosts the nation's No. 1 team, the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, and plays Fort Hays State University at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

"We have Kearney and Hays at home this coming weekend, so we need to be playing at our best levels to add two more wins to our record," Wittenburg said. "As a whole, our team is starting to play more consistent and together as one."
