Metro has many high profile sports teams, but many students are not aware of the club sports. One of these clubs is inline hockey. This will be the third season for the hockey team and there is high hope for this new team.
Last season the inline hockey team went 1-6-1 but only played for the first semester of school. The former coach resigned before the season started, and financial reasons kept the season from continuing.
First-year head coach Bob Derian has taken over this season and has high hopes for the team. Coach Derian was the former head coach for the inline hockey team at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch.
"We will start this team from scratch and will build a new system for the offense, defense and special teams," Derian said.
Sept. 7 the team held its tryouts, considered a success by the team's president Andrew Smith.
"More the 20 skaters showed up for tryouts and that was a success," Smith said.
"Tryouts were excellent and there was really great talent," Derian said.
The team's season will begin the first weekend of October with a pre-season tournament. The season will run though March. Derian hopes to have a maximum of 28 players on the roster this year and currently has 25 or 26.
