Underground hip-hop royalty El-P will be storming the Marquis Theater stage Oct. 16 as part of his "Colorado Mini-Tour of Pain." He will also be playing two other Colorado shows, one Oct. 17 in Colorado Springs at the Black Sheep and another Oct. 18 in Boulder at the Fox Theatre.
El-P, who hails from Brooklyn, NY, had been making a name for himself as a producer, before stepping into a solo career. He helms the record label Definitive Jux, which is home to the likes of Aesop Rock and Del tha Funkee Homosapien.
But as a rapper, his rhymes can range from sarcastic to dead serious, as he addresses all different topics from the apocalypse and science fiction to the current state of affairs in America. And it's all delivered with raw emotion and precision.
With heavy beats and unique samples, El-P makes music that is fun to listen to on a lot of levels. The guest appearances on his last album include members of The Mars Volta and Cat Power, as well as industrial music wizard Trent Reznor, and should be enough to prove that El-P is not your average rhyme-slinger.
The cozy Marquis Theater should be the perfect venue for concertgoers to experience the energy and vibe of El-P's performance. But it might not be standing by the end of the night.
