In light of the 2008 release In Rainbows, more and more bands are following Radiohead's lead and offering their music to the masses for whatever price the listener sees fit. With the economy in shambles, this is a welcome trend in the industry, and many bands are taking the opportunity to get their music on as many iPod playlists as possible by offering their tunes completely free of charge. Here are four EPs that will keep your ears, and your wallets, happy.
Artist: Feral Children
EP: Self-Titled
Where to get it: http://sarathan.com/free/feralchildren_ep
Feral Children's moniker seems oddly apropos after listening to this four-song EP of tracks from their debut, self-titled album. The group's experimental sound is punctuated by sudden, explosive bursts of rage that give Feral Children's indie rock some sharp teeth.
Artist: David Condos
EP: Like Wolves
Where to get it: http://www.davidcondos.com
The trio of songs on David Condos' Like Wolves EP showcases the talent of a very strong singer/songwriter. The songs are carried by Condos' powerful voice and beautiful cello accompaniment. Hurry though, as this EP is only free for a limited time.
Artist: Hearts of Palm
EP: The Bridge
Where to get it: http://heartsofpalmband.com
Denver's very own Hearts of Palm offers a whopping five fantastic songs on this EP. This nine-piece ensemble makes songs tailor-made for singing along. Rocking out with a full, rich horn section, the band is having a good time making music, and it comes through in this extended gem.
Artist: The Sight Below
EP: No Place For Us
Where to get it: http://ghostly.com/releases/no-place-for-us
For those of you looking for something a little more out there, The Sight Below offers No Place For Us as an introduction. A peculiar blend of ambient soundscapes and techno beats, this lengthy three-song EP is definitely different, but worth a listen if you have an open mind.
