Provost

Vicki Golich, one of the three final candidates for Provost, has withdrawn her name from contention for personal reasons. As a result, another candidate has been presented. Enrique Riveros-Schafer is the associate vice-president for academic affairs at San Francisco State University.

Consulting firm Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates presented Riveros-Schafer to the search committee after the initial three candidates were announced. Golich's withdrawal opened up the opportunity to add his name as a possible provost.

Riveros-Schafer has worked in higher education, both as a professor and in administrative positions since the early 70s.

Riveros-Schafer will visit Metro on Nov. 17, and will take part in an open forum and reception from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in room 570 of the Administration Building.

SGA senator

A Student Government Assembly senator who was facing impeachment has been removed from his position after failing to attend assembly meetings.

Senator Dustin Dudley was removed from his position after missing assembly meetings on Oct. 8 and 15. Under the SGA constitution, any senator who misses two meetings without a valid written excuse automatically loses his or her position.

A complaint calling for Dudley's impeachment was filed on Sept. 24 by fellow senators Erik Skelton and Samantha O'Brien, alleging that Dudley was drunk at the annual assembly retreat.

Impeachment proceedings against Dudley, who admitted that he was drinking at the retreat, were dropped after he missed the assembly meetings.

"From what he said, he wasn't able to call or e-mail," SGA President Andrew Bateman said about the absences.

Dudley appealed to the assembly to excuse one of the absences. He provided a doctor's note as proof, however, the note had expired on Oct. 13 and the meeting in question was on Oct. 15, leading the assembly to uphold the decision to remove him from office.

"It's tough because we need as many people involved as possible," Bateman said.

Dudley still has the option of appealing the ruling to the student judicial board, though in the meantime, the assembly is looking to fill the open position.

"I think it's in his right to appeal this. I think he understands he needs to focus on himself right now," SGA Senator Amanda Splitt said.

Bateman said that he has already received applications from interested students.

"I'll be opening it up to the entire college," Bateman said. Interested students should contact the SGA for more information.
