Urban Apprentice School Sites
What are Urban Apprentice Schools (UAS)?
The Denver Public Schools has selected eight unique middle and high schools to serve as exclusive sites for the preparation of UTP students: East High School, North High School, Thomas Jefferson High School, Martin Luther King Middle Early College, Bruce Randolph Middle School, Hill Middle School, Lake Middle School, and Merrill Middle School.
These "Urban Apprentice Schools (UASs)" provide clinical learning practices within content, field experience and student teaching courses throughout the MSCD Teacher Education Program. UTP students are taught by and receive mentorship from a team of Metro State professors, DPS teachers, and on-site Site Coordinators. Teaching in an urban setting is a rewarding experience that presents unique challenges to developing teachers. UTP is designed to make this transition a smooth and successful one that will result in high quality teaching and learning for urban secondary students.
