The second annual Great Teachers for Our City Schools National Summit
held April 1-3, 2009 in Denver, Colorado attracted approximately 235 participants. The National Summit provided a special opportunity for collaboration between leaders of state and local P-16 partnerships, urban district teachers and administrators, college and university faculty and administrators, researchers, and education policy analysts from around the country. Subjects discussed included sharing promising practices, discussing current knowledge, and strengthening our local and national commitment to quality teachers and student achievement in urban and high-needs schools.

"Whatever It Takes - Building Community in Support of Urban Student Achievement" at the 2nd Annual National Summit
Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO for the Harlem Children's Zone, Inc., was the keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual Great Teachers for Our City School's National Summit. During the two hour presentation, he addressed the importance of building community support and the effects that has for increasing levels of student achievement. Canada is nationally recognized for his pioneering work in helping children and families in Harlem and an advocate for education reform.
