Make an Appointment.

The Writing Center offers services by appointment only. Call 303.556.6070 during the Center's hours of operation to make an appointment, or stop by in person and reserve time with a tutor.

Bring an explanation of your assignment.

If you are working on an assignment for a class or on a particular task such as an application for a scholarship, bring all relevant information with you to the session. Assignment sheets, syllabi, class notes, and grading rubrics help us help you.

Bring a sample of your writing.

The sample may be a paper that has already received feedback from others, or it may be a beginning draft. Seeing how your professor responds to your prior work helps us train you to tailor your work to your audience.

Let your instructor know you've visited the Writing Center.

If you need to report to your instructor that you have worked with a tutor in the Writing Center, ask your tutor for a Visit Verification Slip when the session ends. The tutor will fill out this form, letting your instructor know that you came in for a visit.

If your instructor wants to know about your Writing Center sessions on a regular basis, let your tutor know that you would like a short form sent to your instructor indicating the dates you visited the Writing Center and what you did in your sessions. This form also allows tutors to indicate your future appointments. This two-ply short form allows the Writing Center to keep a copy with your records.

The formal evaluation is an in-depth form which communicates more specific information about your tutoring sessions. In this form, tutors will not only discuss what's been covered, but will also recommend ideas and make plans for future tutoring.
